MX Updater not catching all available updates

#1 Post by paul1149 » Wed May 30, 2018 8:03 pm

I'm on MX 17.1 x64. I've noticed a consistent pattern of the MX Updater not seeing when a new snapshot of Vivaldi is released, as happened today.

I have Updater set to Full Update, and to Automatically update. But when I learn of a new Vivaldi snapshot, I run MXU manually. Several times now it comes up empty. Then I go to install the snapshot manually, and MX flags me that it's present in Synaptics after all.

Just now when I went to Synaptics, I saw that Calibri also was not getting picked up by MXU.

Eventually the new snapshot will be auto-installed, usually by the following day. Not sure if there's some setting I've missed, but the behavior doesn't seem right.

Thanks. Some pics:

Had a hard time getting both inline pics to show, numerous edits. Everything was right according to code and Preview, but then only the second pic showed, twice. Now it shows as both inline and an attachment. Tested in two browsers.

There's currently a little glitch, bit me the other day, too. No worries.

As a test, yesterday I installed the earlier version of vivaldi-snapshot (version 1.16.1183.3-1).
This morning MX Updater updated it automatically to version 1.16.1195.3-1 without any problem.

I usually do get the updates by the following day. But on the day they come out, any amount of manually updating does not bring them home.

Yeah, the unattended-upgrades script (what we call 'Auto-update') only gets run once a day by a /etc/cron.daily cronjob.

Ok, that explains why the update might occur the next day if left to the automatic function. But I would expect the manual update to catch it if it's checking the third-party repos.

Oh, I forgot, when Auto-update is enabled I also have it suppress the 'xx updates available' indication/notification (https://github.com/MX-Linux/apt-notifie ... er.py#L214).

I was going on the assumption that most people who enable Auto-update don't really care to be notified of the updates since they're being installed automatically.

It also looks kind of funny in the morning to see the notification come on when updates are available, and then extinguish on it's own a couple minutes later after Auto-update (unattended-upgrades) has finished installing them.

That's built into the stock MX Updater? Even so, and please correct me if I'm wrong, but manual updating should still report any available updates.
