i have yet crash with ff60.0, it seem stable for me.
u can install ff esr or seamonkey from mxpi stable repo.
if u want ff59.0.3, download from:
https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/rel ... 686/en-US/
https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/rel ... _64/en-US/
download, open root thunar, unzip downloaded file, cut n paste to /opt replace existing ff.

pls note:
if u want to keep existing ff60.0, rename /opt/firefire folder to firefox60.0 then cut n paste the unzipped firefox folder.

Or does this only appear when you have something Intel (which I don't)?
for those whom do not have intel graphic, pls refer below links:

https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/AMDGPU

https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/NVIDIA

check /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/
I was just stating the option wasn't there and wondering if it would be there for those who HAVE intel :) I don't have tearing or anything, the nvidia configs sorted that one for me :)

options r created by dev team, pls request from them.
it is easier to create .conf file by yourself, u know what your system required.
those r for n00b as they won't have the know-how to do it.

for those with screen tearing in firefox, try turning any compositor OFF.

thanks stsoh, that would be useful for my mx16.1. with mx17.1 i used a snapshot i had from timeshift (i used it for first time-very nice programm) and then i made the rest of the upgrades manually with synaptic, so i am ok so far.

Thanks but mine is already off and I still have screen tearing. I would disable compton too but then the tearing would be back in other browsers and video players.

Indeed it is. But it is also the thing that cured my screen tearing in MX and Mint on both Intel and AMD integrated graphics, so I anticipate that even if disabling it fixes the FF issue it will reintroduce tearing on other browsers and video players like vlc etc. But I will give it a try and report back in due course.

Okay I have experimented with compton disabled and then with it enabled and found the following:

Videos played in VLC and MPV are unaffected ie there is no tearing regardless of whether compton is on or off. Thats good news.

Firefox continues to exhibit bad tearing regardless of whether compton is on or off. Here is the interesting bit, with compton disabled I can no longer remove the title bar by checking the box in the customise panel, the titlebar remains regardless of if the box is ticked or not, so it seems there is some relation between compton and CSD in ff. The hardware acceleration checkbox setting in ff has no effect on the tearing. Unlike in Slimjet (chrome based) where turning ON the hw acceleration removed the tearing which reappeared recently.

I think for the time being I will use slimjet or chromium for watching videos and keep firefox as my main browser for things like email, shopping and banking where tearing is not an issue.

Final thought. Is there anything in this startup command for compton which might clash with the latest firefox? :-

compton --backend glx --paint-on-overlay --vsync opengl-swc

so i figured out what was happening in my case (which was not a screen tearing) after the firefox upgrade to firefox 60. i always open the browsers with firejail and as it seems Firefox 60 doesn’t work with Firejail version 0.9.52 or older. Patched security profiles for are available for Firejail versions 0.9.38.x (LST) and 0.9.52. So in mx16.1 i upgraded to version 0.9.52 from the mx test repo and then followed the instructions from here https://firejail.wordpress.com/support/ and it worked, so it is solved for me. Moreover it seems that with firejail version 0.9.54 everything is ok with firefox.
thanks
