[Solved] Format MX17.1 Live USB Stick

#1

Post by Kulmbacher » Tue May 08, 2018 11:24 am

i built 2 USB Sticks (german secutity thinking, one will work ;-) using UNetbootin to install MX on SSD.

So one of them, i want delete data, format to ntfs, and use as normal stick as before.
Within installed MX, gparted 0.25.0 shows me "delete", "format to", only in light grey. Nothing to do for me, no options to work.

I have some live distros on sticks:

Porteus 3.1 with gparted 0.19.1 did the job.
Active Kill Disk tried before, also gave the possibility to delete and format.

Where is the difference to MX, and why?

And if nothing would do the job, i rembered yesterday a wonderful tool from my youth - long time ago:
Maxtor, low level format - dead or alive, nothing else ;-)

Never has happened to me. If you start gparted from the menu, you should see a dialog box asking for root's password--did you?

Were the sticks mounted? If so you must unmount them before dping.gparted operations.

There's a nice formatter / writer in the repos for that. Look in Synaptic for mintstick.

Gparted asked authentication to start, and Stick was unmounted.

Synaptic Paketverwaltung didn't find "mintstick" , so i have to use my other versions.

Thanks

Mint's USB tool "mintstick" is avaibale through MXPI -> Complete / Kompletter App-Katalog -> MX-Test Repo
serch for mintstick! You'll find USB Image formater in the menu.
BTW It installls also USB Image writer, wich is a "dd"-image writer and creates a 1-to-1 USB-(CD)-image on stick - non writeable!
