Binary Ring Screensaver Missing After Last dist-upgrade [SOLVED]

#1 Post by calinb » Mon Mar 12, 2018 9:38 pm

Screensaver Preferences (XScreenSaver 5.38, 20-Dec-2017) has BinaryRing grayed-out and says "Not Installed" whereas I used it with MX-17 previously.

Does anyone know what happened to it? I tried installing the xscreensaver-gl and xscreensaver-gl-extra package and didn't find it there either.

Thanks!

Apparently something got missed when the package was updated to the new upstream version last week.
I'll investigate further in the morning.

It seems to be missing from the debian/split-hacks.config file. You also have to add the two new hacks, vigilance and esper, there for those for those to show up. I suppose esper would go to data-extra and vigilance to gl-data-extra. Maybe we could adapt the Debian patch from 5.36 to defuse the time bomb, too.

Thanks guys! I'll try to add the hacks and see if I can get it back. I recently installed MX-17 on my daughter's C710 Chromebook and it's not been dist-upgraded since Binary Ring disappeared. I don't think she'll let me upgrade her computer until I figure out how to resurrect it! :bawling:

Just updated xscreensaver in MX-17 to restore binary-ring and bring in the two new hacks, esper & vigilance.
All the *mxrepo.com mirrors have it now, the rest will update presently.

MX-15/16 update will show up later today.

Wow--that was quick. Thank so much! I see there's an upgraded firefox package too, so I'll grab it all on public wifi at the library very soon and spare my smartphone tether bits.

Solved! Tested on both my MX-17 64-bit laptop and MX-16 32-bit netbook. My daughter's C710 Chromebook will be next.
