fsck exited with status code 8 (Solved)

#1 Post by tinman » Sun Feb 11, 2018 12:29 pm

This morning, on boot everything was going as expected and then I get fsck.ext3: Unable to resolve UUID...... fsck exited with status code 8. It then says File system check failed and asks me to repair the file system manually. I do not know how to do that. It starts a maintenance shell but once I enter my root password I am at a loss as to what to do.

Use fsck from the command line. Google search on "repair the file system manually fsck" yields

Okay, so I fixed my fsck issue. Friday I was messing around with fstab file trying, with no success, every way I know how to get my plex media server to scan the files on my external hard drive. I then removed said hard drive and today when I started up my box it gave me an error code because it could not find that hard drive. I subsequently removed it from my fstab file and rebooted the PC. When it started it looked wrong. No wallpaper, no mouse cursor and the windows had no borders or buttons. I restarted the windows manager using "xfwm4 -- replace" in the terminal and now all is right with the world again.
