Re: kernel options

#131 Post by stsoh » Mon Apr 02, 2018 3:31 am

i've compiled kernel 4.16.0, dkms conflict with virtualbox-guest 5.2.8.
dkms virtualbox, 5.2.8, 4.16.0, x86_64: installed w/o problem.
not sure whether upgrade vb 5.2.8-dfsg-1 to -5 will solve this conflict? i doubt.
any help from dev team to correct this conflict is greatly appreciated.

thanks, attached make.log.

If you got a failure on i386, there's supposed to be some fix for it in the -5 revision:

Code: Select all

virtualbox (5.2.8-dfsg-5) unstable; urgency=medium

  * Fixup build on i386, by finding the correct java path here too.

 -- Gianfranco Costamagna <locutusofborg@debian.org> Mon, 19 Mar 2018 08:19:14 +0100

virtualbox (5.2.8-dfsg-4) unstable; urgency=medium

  * Force java8 to build, java9 makes the program FTBFS because
of missing javax module (and --add-module can't find it)

 -- Gianfranco Costamagna <locutusofborg@debian.org> Fri, 16 Mar 2018 15:02:17 +0100

virtualbox (5.2.8-dfsg-3) unstable; urgency=medium

  * Do not delay startup because of notify-send not being ready
    (Closes: #880594, LP: #1722745)

 -- Gianfranco Costamagna <locutusofborg@debian.org> Fri, 16 Mar 2018 13:56:41 +0100

virtualbox (5.2.8-dfsg-2) unstable; urgency=medium

  * Update dh_systemd_enable to run only with guest-utils package
(Closes: #891860). Thanks Kevin Locke for the useful report!

stsoh - did you really download and build a 4.16 kernel that was uploaded on 1 April? You're brave!

There was also a large set of patches posted on April 1st that converted the kernel to C++.

Someone also fell for Kodi's April Fool's prank and started an angry thread about it being a hoax on Reddit.
With Google removing Kodi from its Autocomplete results, the Kodi foundation has decided another name change is in order. What better way to fight the man than by returning to the project's roots? Kodi is officially changing its name back to XBMC.

Together with this change, XBMC will be dropping support for all platforms that aren't the Xbox One. In an effort at historical continuity, the next release of XBMC will be v.3.0. XBMC supporters can pick up new/old merch for the next three days.
