4.14.0-bpo.3-amd64 currently testing again, it used to go to a black screen with a cursor only like below, but there was a synaptic kernel update, among others, and now it boots, up for 2 hrs so far. But I bet will also be unstable???!
4.9.0-5amd64 boots to a black screen with a blinking cursor
If I run the antix 4.10 kernel, the system is unconditionally stable in MX 17 and antix 17, I have >41 days uptime with no crashes or lockups.
In antix, there is a replacement for 4.10, 4.9.75. Yup, by the 75th revision of 4.9 , it gets pretty close to 4.10. And is 6 days stable in antix 17 on this machine, so I think it is good like 4.10, but patched.
Use the 4.9.77.antix.1 kernel (This *should work the same as default 4.10.5
Actually the closest match is the 4.9.75.antix.2 kernel ...I think is the closest match to 4.10
How can I run that kernel in MX 17?
It is not in the MX package installer.
And for me, sometimes, I have the black screen blinking cursor problem.
So critical is the nvidia driver. I need a working NVIDIA 375.82
And sometimes installing the kernel does not always get the driver configured or built right I am assuming from the symptom.
