#1 Post by spandey » Wed Jan 10, 2018 3:36 am

How do we disable ipv6 in MX17? It's an very old PC and I would like to disable IPV6.
1. In Network Manager IPV6 is disabled
2. in /etc/sysctl.conf i have added
net.ipv6.conf.all.disable_ipv6 = 1
net.ipv6.conf.default.disable_ipv6 = 1
net.ipv6.conf.lo.disable_ipv6 = 1

I googled "debian 9 disable ipv6" where there are a zillion useful-looking hits. Here's the first one listed, which looks promising:

https://www.itzgeek.com/how-tos/linux/d ... 16-04.html
Production: 4.15.0-1-amd64, MX-17.1, AMD FX-4130 Quad-Core, GeForce GT 630/PCIe/SSE2, 8 GB, Kingston SSD 120 GB and WesternDigital 1TB
Testing: AAO 722: 4.15.0-1-386. MX-17.1, AMD C-60 APU, 4 GB

Option 2: add 'ipv6.disable=1' to /etc/default/grub

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="YOUR PARAMETERS"
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="YOUR PARAMETERS ipv6.disable=1"

Don't forget to run update-grub afterwards!

Works for me (for years now), although I admit I do not know any cons (besides having to reboot to take effect).
(pro=single line, less typos in terminal)

Hi,
the easiest way to disable IPv6 temporarely is to copy to your terminal:

sudo sysctl -p -f /etc/sysctl.d/70-disable-ipv6.conf (do not forget to press enter)

After restarting MX-17 it is IPv6 capable again.

You can check the success on
https://www.whatismyip.com/

Important!!!!!!!!!
If you do so for using VPN for surfing anonymously, you must disable WEBrtc in your browser too.
For firefox there is an addon.

Regards
Karl
