Dropbox

#1 Post by tdell » Tue Dec 26, 2017 2:50 pm

Cannot seem to get this installed it hangs at 99% configuring. This messes everything up as it locks up Apt and not further programs can be installed. Any ideas? Tried several ways to install all with the same result.

I am trying to remember if there is a terms message you have to respond to. But do not recall. You might check to see if there is a hidden window requiring an acceptance of terms or a line in the terminal window.

Seems to work here. I installed from Package Installer, then used the Menu entry once that had finished. Now I see a dropbox icon in my Notification Area, and clicking on it gives me the option of signing in.

Don't actually want it so ran

Code: Select all

sudo apt purge nautilus-dropbox -y
Production: 4.15.0-1-amd64, MX-17.1, AMD FX-4130 Quad-Core, GeForce GT 630/PCIe/SSE2, 8 GB, Kingston SSD 120 GB and WesternDigital 1TB

In Preferred Applications, do you have a browser named that is actually installed?

Thanks all finally got it installed and working. I guess the third time is the charm. No idea what the problem was.

I've used it extensively, with no installation woes.

My guess to your problem would be that at the end of installation it needs to connect to the Dropbox server, and that was failing.

I also have had no issues with Dropbox install. Well one that is irritating, its inability to recognize an existing Dropbox on another partition. It always wants to use home and starts downloading files. You can pause and move to your partition containing Dropbox but it errors saying Dropbox already exists. There are numerous Google comments about this and solutions that I have not been able to make work. You used to be able to choose an existing Dropbox folder before linking your computer but that seems to be no longer the case. That dialog has never come up through several Dropbox installs I have performed over the last year.

One would think Dropbox could modify their code to allow a check if you have an existing Dropbox and just index the files. They have been aware of the issue for a long time as there are many bug reports. And I do consider it a bug.

If anyone knows a way around this it would be welcome.
