I've also been annoyed by this. I hadn't thought of symlinking - my Dropbox folder is a sub-folder of another, which is already symlinked to ~/Documents.

My final (clunky) workaround was to let it create the new folder and pause syncing. Rename my existing folder to Dripbox, use Dropbox to move the dropbox folder to the same location, delete it and rename Dripbox to Dropbox. Restart syncing.

On my laptop where I had paused downloading and stopped Dropbox from starting, I deleted the Dropbox folder it had created in home. I symlinked the existing Dropbox folder and restarted symc, That worked very well. I also had never thought of symlinking. Thanks D_O.

I also had a clunky solution for the laptop which involved my desktop and Google Drive. But I will not detail that as it is involved and well ........ clunky. And would be no help to anyone.

I've been installing Dropbox like Gaerboy
but I think I'll try with a symlink.
Seems less hassle.
Thanks!
