changing the MX-15 splash photo

#1

Post by lonesomepoint » Tue Jan 17, 2017 3:34 pm

I feel like changing the splash screen photo. I assume I can change it as easily as any wallpaper, and unless I can't, where is the file stored?

And you do it so nicely, instead of yelling "RTFM, idiot"...

As amazing as the manual is, I'm surprised it rarely comes up in any review of our distro. Sure glad it's there though.

I wonder how many ship with one...

Honestly? No. A response like "read the RTFM, idiot" would be less insulting, not more. Because whatever the replies intended, replies like these tend to come off as snide and sarcastic, as simply laughing at me behind screens for forgetting to "read the RTFM." Your emotes only reinforce the perception. I apologize for forgetting to read the manual.

I apologize for forgetting to read the manual.
No one expects you to read (or "plow") through the Manual. But the sequence to search it is pretty simple:

Alt-F1 << opens the Manual in your browser
Ctrl-F << opens a search box

My parenthetical comment was just a reference to the fact that I seem always to be pointing to the Manual. I'm hard pressed to see how it could "come off as snide and sarcastic, as simply laughing at me behind screens."

http://mxlinuxguide.blogspot.com.au/p/blog-page_15.html is my respin on customising Grub and the splash screen. The official resources like the User Manual and wIki are also well augmented by video help, all done by volunteers. Peace.

And Tascoast, your guide is very handy and the concept of changing the splash screen etc along with choosing one's own wallpapers for all or each desktop individually, certainly puts to rest those arguments that you read about from time to time that XFCE is not very flash looking. I mean, it takes just a little time and effort to even do just these two things and your desktop IMO then looks very attractive. Of course, there's a variety of other things a user can do to personalize the environment but those two are good starting points.

So, you'd rather somebody yelled at you to read the gorram manual than politely tell you. And you don't need to put the "read the" in front of RTFM, as it stands for "Read The F***ing Manual"...

They aren't laughing at you, I sure as gorram hell ain't laughing at you...in the decade or so that I've hung out here, these guys have always been polite and friendly. I've seen a lot of laughing WITH but I can't ever recall any laughing AT...
