Can't Use it with a Live USB

#1

Post by paulatea » Fri Jan 11, 2019 12:23 am

Hi there, I've been for a few hours now trying to get a live USB of MX Linux to work but can't. I can enter into the system but as soon as I'm in it freezes and can´t do anything except for moving the cursor around. The hdd memory on the desktop it says "0" don't know if that has something to do with it. I really want to try MX Linux to see if I move from Lubuntu.

I tried a few things already with no luck. I am trying in in a Lenovo dual core 4gb ram amd laptop.

Any help will be appreciated.

Hi; welcome to the forum.

Did you verify the integrity of the download? What method did you use to create the USB?

If you are unsure about these steps, the manual has a lot of information in the Installation section:

64-bit - Lenovo T61, 2GHz Core 2 Duo, 2GB RAM
64-bit - Gigabyte Z77P-D3, Intel i3-3220, GeForce 8400 GS, 4GB PC3-12800.

Thank you Chris.

I tried it with one image of the mirrors and also with the torrent one, and same results. I can enter and view the MX Linux desktop but can't do anything more than close the welcome window, nothing else works, frizzes. I checked the documentation but don't see what I am missing. I burned the image to the usb with rufus on a windows computer and also with an application from Linux called Gnome Disks or Disks. The only thing I can think of so far is that the specs of my laptop are not compatible with the MX Linux image, but my laptop is very standard just a normal Lenovo. So I don't know : (

I would try a different USB flashdrive too, just in case there's something strange going on with that one...

There might be some other settings you might try, maybe it's a video driver issue since it freezes when/after X starts -- there are some option at startup, F6 - Safe Video, Failsafe etc, not sure what they all do but you can try different options.

Thank you for the suggestions. Ive been doing more tests and strangely on my pc it loads perfectly with a background image and only tree options: boot MX Linux, boot from hard drive etc. And it works great. But on my laptop in which I want to install MXL, I get no graphical interface (background image) just text, and no option works, tried them all static, root, etc I really don't know what it can be. Maybe something on my BIOS?

I tried with two USB's and same results.

I saw this problem the other day, or at least something very similar.

How did you make the usb stick?

lenovo s21e - MX-18, antiX-17.3.1 (live-USB)
FYI: mx "test" repo is not the same thing as debian testing repo.

Hi. I made it with Rufus on Windows 7, FAT32.

I launched the USB again on my laptop and realized it has a background image as well but no option to launch from hard drive and some other differences than when in the laptop. Again I was able to get into MXL but I can only move the cursor around but nothing I click works, it's frozen. On my PC it runs great.

hmm... usually rufus works.

the screens are a little different when booting UEFI vs. legacy, so that could be the difference you are seeing.

What is the laptop?

Maybe my computer has a driver not supported by MX Linux? Don't know what else it can be
