With a boot on sysvinit? Or only systemd?
It works on both. I thought a sysvinit was only a systemd command.

I thought that too, and that's what the man file appears to say:
systemctl - Control the systemd system and service manager

Well I tried it twice being sure I was booting sysvinit. It is installed and I did not install it. Could it be this from the manual:
Systemd is included by default but not enabled. You can scan your MX system and discover files bearing systemd* names, but those simply provide a compatibility hook/entrypoint when needed.
