Users Manual 20170608

#1 Post by Jerry3904 »

The UM for the point release MX-16.1 is now available both through the link at the top of the Forum and on the user's computer (Alt-F1). It incorporates many suggestions raised on the Forum, especially by skidoo (thanks!), as well as reflecting all the changes that have happened (e.g., MX Tools).

We would like to have people review it carefully over the next couple of weeks. We're looking for content changes mostly, though other stuff (including images) is also fine. Section 3 received the most intense attention over the last month, while others such as Section 4 and 6 were never even looked at and may contain portions that are out of date.

Once we have gone through this review cycle, we will freeze the Manual for a few months while we work through the changes needed to switch it over to GitHub with the rest of the MX code.

Thanks for your help.

There is a localized issue with the 'here' link at the end of sub-section 2.1.2. The link should go to an explanation of 32 Vs 64 bits at LifeHacker.com. Here in NZ, the link takes me to LifeHacker.com.au, the Australian site that has the 32/64 info' on another page. I can get this by a search but am asking if anyone else, particularly in Australia or NZ, has this problem?
Backup: Dell9010, MX-19_B2, Win7, 120 SSD, WD 232GIB HD, 4GB RAM

MX-18.2 64bit. Also MX17, Kubuntu14.04 & Puppy 6.3.

Thanks Chris, and as might also be expected, Jerry's download is good in USA.

Is anybody seeing an error with Alt-F1 bringing up an old Manual instead of the new one? Here's what I see for versions after updating just a minute ago:

Code: Select all

$ apt-cache policy mx-docs
mx-docs:
  Installed: 20170608+1
  Candidate: 20170608+1
  Version table:
 *** 20170608+1 0
        500 http://mxrepo.com/mx/repo/ mx16/main amd64 Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
     20160701 0
        500 http://mxrepo.com/mx/repo/ mx15/main amd64 Packages

On both an installed RC1, and an upgraded MX-16, I get v. 20170608. Is that correct.?

Alt-F1 brings up the installed file:

Code: Select all

xdg-open /usr/local/share/doc/mxum.html
This is not a problem that I am having, but it has been reported to me.

In apt-cache policy output it should have a "+1" as you see in mine. (I forgot to change the link to the style sheet the first time...)
