Apparently the version number is also very important.

Re: Thinkpads
Version number of MX or of the hardware? Or Both? The more relevant info supplied the better.

Re: Thinkpads
I've got MX (and antiX) working well on a wide variety of Thinkpads and am slowly resolving the outstanding issues. I just have to get around to updating my scattered notes on them...
MX-17.1: Thinkpad x60t, x61t, x200t, x220t.
MX-18 (32-bit) Thinkpads: 600x*, A31p, T43p, T60p;
MX-18 (64-bit): MacBook13(5,1), Thinkpad x61s, T61pW, T601pF, x200, x301*, T500, W500, W700, W700ds, W701, W701ds*, x220, W520.

Re: Thinkpads
Off the top of my head, Thinkpad outstanding issues:
- 600x sound and graphics issues -- fixes finally solved for antiX 17.1 have to try for MX 17.1 (works fine for MX 14.4 and 16.1 and antiX 16.3).
- A31p extra buttons -- figured out for MX/XFCE still have to go back and do for antiX/IceWM.
- x301 optical drive bay issues -- unresolved, but have ultrabay with either SATA and/or mSATA drives or additional battery working fine, not sure if this can be resolved with dvd.
- x60t, x61t, boot issues -- recently resolved with great help on antiX and MX forums combined, now boots without long delay.
- Tablets, x60t, x61t, x200t, x220t screen rotation for tablet mode -- still unresolved alignment of screen display and pen cursor, tried several things but no fixes yet.
- W700ds: one unit won't do the dual-screen mode in linux (but does in Windows 7) but other units do fine, weird they don't all work the same but keeping that unit as an offline retro windows workstation.
- W520 NVidia Graphics issues -- fixed need to do settings in BIOS correctly or get blank screen.
Generally, MX (and antiX) work great of the vast majority of Thinkpads, I tried dozens of distros over the last 4 years or so on these machines and MX has been the best overall distro for our Thinkpads, the outstanding issues largely aren't addressed by other distros (x301 dvd drive works in Linux Lite though) and with time, work, and help I have faith that the few things left will be resolved.

We are working on an update to <the Thinkpad Wiki page. Over two years ago Chris wrote this:
Thanks,

Wikipedia has a fairly detailed account of the Thinkpad's history which explains the different manufacturers. For our Wiki the plan is to follow Chris" suggestion of a table. What we need is info' from Thinkpad users with the following: Thinkpad Model and Version. Wireless card and graphics card types fitted. Versions of MX being used. Any modifications and problems or things that do not work for you. Suggest use inxi -F , placed in code tags, plus any comments, and submit to this Thinkpads thread.chrispop99 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 11, 2016 12:01 pm It might be worth bearing in mind that IBM, Lenovo and DELL et al ship identical models with varied hardware. A listing of what MX works with needs at the very least the model of wireless card, and the type of graphics card, to be truly useful.
It would also be easier to understand if the information were to be presented in the form of a table, IMHO.

Thanks,

Re: Thinkpads
Generally speaking, we're good up through Intel Kaby Lake 7th gen hardware, and 2017 AMD hardware. Newer than that would need kernel, Mesa, and firmware updates from stretch-backports or our test/experimental repos.
