MX Beowulf (Devuan) Respin

#1 Post by rasat »

There are discussions about MX next major release MX19 with Debian Buster, with or without systemd. For non-systemd base, Devuan (fork of Debian) has been suggested by forum users (I am one of them :) ). Question asked, does it work and how reliable is Devuan as a future base?

This respin is based on MX18.2 (Debian stretch) replaced with Devuan beowulf (buster) repo. The upgrade had minor broken package installs but easily fixed. Runs with default Xfce which works fine. Gnome is tested and runs well too (not installed in this respin). Currently with Slim window manager (login) but you can replace with lightdm.

Thanks, rasat. Downloading now.

Do the MX enhancements to Thunar work?

P.S. Thread title seems to contain a typo.

Currently using Devuan so this is definitely of interest.

Also on the Devuan forum they have a section “Devuan Derivatives” so could be worth posting there as well if you want if you want to attract some extra attention.

Tried to run it from DVD: it starts OK but I can't get any login to work; please give us login names with passwords.

I think I prefer the idea of going with XFCE/openbox antiX over Devuan. I'll try MX Devuan, though ('cause why not?!?!)

As this points out, there are options.

This Devuan option is for all DE, including Gnome what antiX doesn't.
