How about an MX Studio edition?

For issues with MX that has been modified from the initial install. Example: adding packages that then cause issues.

How about an MX Studio edition?

#1 Post by azrielle » Thu Aug 16, 2018 8:32 pm

Modeled after ParrotOS Studio (find it under their "Home Edition" category on their downloads page).
Why? (Yes I know, I can just download the relevant packages and essentially do it myself...)
Because actually INSTALLING ParrotOS Studio is a bloody P.I.T.A! When it actually works. And then there's the asinine Mate DE, which I have learned to loathe. Much prefer MX's iteration of Xfce.

I'm not familiar with ParrotOS Studio what does it have that you need? Can you just add the stuff to MX and then take a snapshot?

Yes I can. Parrot Studio is a variation of their non-security home edition with a couple dozen up-to-date audio, video, and graphics editing applications included in the iso.

It's pretty easy to set up studio basics on MX by adding KXStudio repos and cherry-picking the packages you want from there. Also use a realtime kernel, or low latency kernel such as Liquorix.
I set up a system using Cadence from KX to manage JACK, and mainly used it for mixdown of live recordings using Harrison Mixbus 32C (paid program).
There was a recent discussion about this, particularly my post #10 about optimising configuration - https://forum.mxlinux.org/viewtopic.php ... 4&p=451719

I'll try to get around to making a snapshot of that system and upload it somewhere. Will have to remove some licence files and maybe add a few more of the most useful audio programs. Maybe a couple of video programs too although I rarely use them.
If anyone has package requests for their favourite or most useful audio or video programs, please post them and I will consider adding them.

I would appreciate Muse very much in your MX Studio edition.
