Has anyone managed to get Gnome on Wayland working with MX-17? I installed the relevant packages but as soon as I try to log in with the Wayland session it goes back to the login screen. Any suggestions?

It might require that systemd be running, since that's tied more tightly with GNOME.. Can you try booting MX from the advanced section of the GRUB menu with systemd to see if that makes any difference?

That was also my thought, but systemd mode behaves exactly the same.

In both modes it starts from a text tty session:

Code: Select all

dbus-run-session -- gnome-shell --display-server --wayland
But starting from the graphical login screen fails.

Hmmm...what about installing gdm and using that as the display manager?

Interesting... yes, gdm3 works, both with and without systemd, but now I have a boring greeter :(

Well, there must be some way of customizing the gdm theme, but I don't know how.

I got it working with gdm3, but then it would regularly hang for seconds at a time.

No biggie, xfce (especially the way MX-17 implements it!) is pretty great too.
