For issues with MX that has been modified from the initial install. Example: adding packages that then cause issues.

(SOLVED) MX-16 unofficial with KDE - Unable to install HP printing extras and Skype

#1 Post by joejac »

Hello,

I do not have a problem with the keyring but with broken packages. I used Synaptic to fix broken packages and it gave the message that it fixed it, but I still have the errors:
1.- HP printing extras installation still gives the error:
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
Printer-driver-hpijs: Depends: libhpmud0 (= 3.16.10 + repack0-1mx15 + 1) but 3.16.11 + repack0-1mx15 + 1 is going to be installed
E: Problems could not be corrected, you have retained broken packets.
2.- Skype does not install either:
Package skype: i386 is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
Is only available from another source

E: Package 'skype: i386' has no installation candidate
Last week I got those packages installed fine with my MX-16 official installation in my Hard Disk. But since 3 days ago they fail in my SSD, the only difference is the problem with signatures and repos and that in SSD I installed the MX-16 with the KDE respin. I do not know what else to do, the complete messages are in this other post.

Please note that I was able to install uGet without any problem in same MX-16 with the KDE respin.

Thank you for your help.
Regards
joejac

skype isn't in our repos...use mx-packageinstaller or download direct from skype, which is what mx-pi does.

can't help with hplip.

I think joejac might have previously installed or upgraded some of the hplip packages to the testrepo version (3.16.11+repack0-1mx15+1), but he doesn't have the testrepo enabled currently.

Actually, I upgraded hplip to 3.16.11 to that version on the respin--I'll ask Tim to move it to main. The temporary workaround is to install that troublesome printer-driver-hpijs package from the test repo.

Before you ask for it to be moved, will it break existing hp set ups?

Not unless the jessie-backports version is breaking printing.

err sorry for my ignorance, how do I enable backports to test?

I offer to test as I have a hp printer and as luck would have it am in the process of making a how to get info doc for various printers.

hplip 3.16.10+repack0-1mx15+1 works fine for wireless today

edit
found it

There is also a more convenient Debian Backports Installer in MX-Tools.
Desktop: Intel i5-4460, 16GB RAM, Intel integrated graphics
Clevo N130WU-based Ultrabook: Intel i7-8550U (Kaby Lake R), 16GB RAM, Intel integrated graphics (UEFI)
ASUS X42D laptop: AMD Phenom II, 6GB RAM, Mobility Radeon HD 5400

Edit

I did something on my tower and may have tricked my python. So I just checked my laptop which was untouched.

I did not need backports 3.16.11 is already there.

hp-setup on wl with a static ip works as expected.

wl test print of a text file works as expected

you guys are too fast for me
