Marrying Kde to Xfce in MX-16

For issues with MX that has been modified from the initial install. Example: adding packages that then cause issues.

a) Screenlets the app (not kde but works in all DE including Xfce) that adds sidebar widgets - eg clock and calendar - not "plasmoids".

c} Thumbnails of open windows when you hover over their taskbar tabs. It's amongst desktop effects.

c) I would not expect that to work since the panel is still an XFCE panel.

Why in God's name...?
If you can't live without KDE, MX doesn't seem like it would be the right "fit".

It is not a full KDE, no where near it. Whisker, panel and 95% of functions are still XFCE. ! As I said in an earlier post think of it as a more capable compositor than native XFCE has. And better than Compton which has been made available in our repos. MX is an excellent fit for it. If you have not tried it do not knock it.
We do not discourage anyone from configuring MX the way they want. If way off the beam we will tell them. And while modification like Kwin are not officially supported, as you can see, individual members are willing to help. If people are not interested they do not have to read the thread.

I'm running full KDE on MX-16. I like MX, and I like the community, but I also like KDE. It fits.-)

Well said rich! For those who do not read the whole thread (or gist) this exercise was about more compositing functionality than the default Xfce. Compiz is a more "natural" fit for Xfce (as in Mint for example - and btw does show window previews) but for me the limited/crude window decorations - even with Emerald - had me turn to Kwin compositing but not full Kde,

It depends on your definition of "modified"? It's modified the moment an app is added or the system updated. Would it have been modified if Compiz had fully fitted my objective? This is about Desktop Environments which surely makes it appropriate.

EDIT It occurs to me that the 4 packages mention by richb might form a useful mini meta or task - perhaps with pre-prepared wm switchers as described in the video (post #25)

The definition we have applied to modified are system changes beyond the distributed version. See the description for the modified forum, "For issues with MX that has been modified from the initial install. Example: adding packages that then cause issues." Compiz and kwin would fall in this category particularly since both cause operation of the system to be non-standard. At times it is a close call but this clearly is not. In any case it does not detract from the visibility of the thread.
