I keep thinking about maybe making a MATE respin, but I don't know where the DE keeps its configuration files to put into /etc/skel. Maybe I should look at how Ubuntu MATE does it, or see if the /etc/skel script part of the Respin project can do that automatically for me: https://github.com/ch1x0r/LinuxRespin/b ... n-skelcopy

check out my video series building a custom mate spin using antiX-17 net iso.

the settings for mate in that version were stored in a dconf database file. Look around minute 8 in part 5 https://youtu.be/H_L5loC9dd4

MATE is a nice desktop, especially on a large monitor. I like Xfce on my laptops better though. MATE is only slightly heavier on old hardware than Xfce.
