Image attachments explained.

#1 Post by richb »

We have established a 640x620 px limit for images attached to posts to avoid taking up large areas of the browser page and enhance readability of topics. There are two methods to attach images, images attached that reside in our database and images linked to image hosting services.

Images attached using post Attachment feature

At the bottom of the post block is an Attachment button. This is used to add an image to a post. The maximum image size is 300 KiB. When attached a thumbnail is produced which will show in the post. When clicking on the thumbnail a full size image will display.
If your image is greater than 300 KiB it will be rejected by the system. It can be reduced by using software such as Nomacs, and others which have a scaling feature. If a png image it can be converted to a jpg of medium quality which will be a smaller file size.

Images linked to a web hosting service

Most hosting services allow embedding images in posts with img tags. If the image exceeds 600 x 600 px we ask that it be reduced to this size. If this size causes it to be unreadable just post the link without the img tags. Users can click on the link to get the image from the image hosting site by clicking the link.
