Translation option

#1 Post by MAYBL8 »

I would like to be able to read the posts by members that are posted in a different language than English.
Would it be possible to put a translator button on the forum for this purpose?
Thanks
Dan

Not with the standard software.
I have added the Google Translate extension to my browser, Google Chrome. When it detects a non-English language a popup comes up asking if you want to translate. You can also set it to automatically translate when it detects the particular language.
It is also available for Firefox. And if you do not like Google there are other translate extensions available.

If you use Chrome/Chromium it can be set to offer translation of other languages to your browser's "default" language:

I must say the extension is much more useful for individual posts embedded on our site.

I suspect such an extension is available for most of the modern browsers. I use Firefox and Opera, both of which offer them, especially FF:

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... ver=64.0.2

Opera has access to many Chrome add-ons, but haven't looked for a translation one in any concerted fashion.
Production: 5.10, MX-23 Xfce, AMD FX-4130 Quad-Core, GeForce GT 630/PCIe/SSE2, 16 GB, SSD 120 GB, Data 1TB
Personal: Lenovo X1 Carbon with MX-23 Fluxbox and Windows 10
Other: Raspberry Pi 5 with MX-23 Xfce Raspberry Pi Respin

Alright. I'll install and try that instead.

I will be interested in your opinion.

I went away from the google thing as it annoyed me. I don't remember why but it wasn't working out for me.

I now use TransOver: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/deta ... lbadmkledi

I am afraid I am not getting it to function as you describe here on Chromium 71.0.3578.80. It doesn't seem to automatically pick up the language and offer a translation. So in it's options, I set it first to "Display icon that I can click to show pop-up and then to "Immediately display popup". In both cases I have to mark the text to be translated and in either case, it seems to be a bit of hit and miss.
