Re: A thought on Timeshift
I've worked with both, Timeshift in Mint and Snapshot from the MX Tools section. Personally, I feel that snapshot is less attractive and a little weird with some of the wording, but I actually like it better than Timeshift because it not only backs up exactly what I want and how I want it, but on to...

Re: To systemd or not systemd - Ever wonder about it?
My problem with systemd started with malfunctioning systems. The shut down time-out was described as a "feature" by the systemd expert, but in my case it was an unwanted feature. The network connection in Ubuntu became very unreliable after systemd, but it would be unfair to blame systemd...

Re: To systemd or not systemd - Ever wonder about it?
On the other hand if you are a System Administrator maybe systemd is a gift from the gods. Many experienced Linux users do like systemd. Just don't expect a systemd based distro to work "out of the box". My understanding is that Debian runs by default with systemd. I've never had any prob...

Re: To systemd or not systemd - Ever wonder about it?
Well, I like what Jerry3904 had to say, because if the tried & true (flawless?) sysvinit is actually still being maintained by Jesse Smith or anyone else with the knowledge to do so, then by all means I suppose there's nothing wrong by continuing with the present methods for MX development. And ...

Re: To systemd or not systemd - Ever wonder about it?
From the Wiki: To be fair, systemd is good enough for most users and it's actively maintained which is no longer the case with sysvinit. OTOH, sysvinit has had a *long* time to weed out the bugs so one wouldn't expect it to need a lot of maintenance. That does make me wonder though, at which point ...

Re: To systemd or not systemd - Ever wonder about it?
Whoops, sorry, I didn't realize that the MX Wiki had a dedicated section for systemd. My bad ...

To systemd or not systemd - Ever wonder about it?
I ran across a post by someone on this forum who had issues with their MX install, which the user was able to correct by switching to systemd mode during boot. I don't know anything at all about systemd, but it made me curious what it is, how it's implemented, why it's implemented, and to understand...

Re: antiX fund-drive
antiX has been around since 2007 and this is the first time we have posted a request for funds. Why? - Well our infrastructure has changed. We now have our own web site and forum that has to be paid for. Previously we used free hosting. Our server needed repairing. Devs need equipment to test and b...

Re: What kind of release cycle MX Linux has?
Back to OP's question: we now have the information linked off the menu (Products) on the Home page of the website. https://mxlinux.org/release-cycle Section 1.4 of the Users Manual covers the more general question of support length. Point release - That should be kernel update, shouldn't it? There'...

Re: Thunar - Camera - Very annoying missing privileges !!!
Thanks, but I don't really see any point to add more time to something that is now working for me. Thunar will continue to be my default file manager but I will use Caja when I have to transfer image files from my camera. I also noticed that Caja has (must retrieve from repos) has built-in resize an...
