Re: Good video explaining SSD and HDD longevity

I had one SSD fail in that way. After not being powered for about a year, the system wouldn't boot from it and booting from a LiveUSB showed the SSD was blank . I installed MX on it again, and it worked for a few days then started randomly losing data. I don't know if leaving it unpowered for so lon...

Re: [Request] hplip-3.23.12

The last time Debian fell this far behind on hplip was 2016 - but Ubuntu builds filled the gap then. Over the last 15 years (starting with Mepis 8.0 at a time when I had a newish HP printer) I've often backported hplip from Ubuntu or Debian testing/unstable sources so we could have it reasonably up-...

Re: MX not finding sound hardware

I see that Fedora is using a 6.7 kernel while you are using the 6.1 debian kernel on MX. I would enable the ahs repo and try installing the latest (6.7-10) Liquorix kernel. If that doesn't do it, then you are likely correct that it's firmware since both systems are using the same driver and audio st...

Re: [Request] hplip-3.23.12

I believe that I have successfully built hplip 3.23.12, using the tarball from HP and debian's packaging (refreshing many of debian's patches and modifying a few where something was fixed or refactored upstream). However, I do not have a working HP printer to test the packages with. It's currently a...

Re: com ports not showing

You may have to map your port in the Wine registry:

Re: apt autoremove hangs at '('

Since apt has already calculated what can be automatically removed

Code: Select all

sudo apt autoremove
doesn't require any parameters.

Re: Wlan issue on LenovoIdeapad-1 15AMN7 Laptop [Solved]

The 6.1 kernel on the MX-23.2 KDE iso doesn't have the rtw89_8852be driver your wifi uses. Any 6.3 or later kernel does. The MX-23.2 AHS iso has a 6.6 kernel and should work. But you want KDE, so If you download the latest 6.6 kernel and headers here: https://mxrepo.com/mx/repo/pool/ahs/l/linux-liqu...

Re: Time consumung: installing and updating new software or kernels..?

I wonder if that one fails because it is set to only build the module for kernels <=6.1 so it isn't active on the 6.5 that you are running. The script that is failing is /var/lib/dpkg/info/rtl8821cu-dkms.prerm Removing that file will allow the package to be removed. Though if you still have a 6.1 or...

Re: Time consumung: installing and updating new software or kernels..?

Will do.
One suggestion though. There should be a warning that any wifi adapter not currently plugged in could have its driver removed.
