Re: systemd in debian

Not only that, some even suggested wanting a distro that offered users a choice on startup between SysV and others. If only there was a distro that offered choice ...

Re: Is MX the Solus of 2019?

I don't know about "new hot distro". It's getting a lot of play now, in part, because it's stable and runs very fast even on older PCs. People see it's based on Debian stable, yet packages are updated quite often so they can't claim MX is just trying to put lipstick on Debian with the same...

I'm never going to consider using Deepin as a main distro for anything. I am quite happy with MX. But I will play with it for a bit. I have some spare / and /home partitions on another machine I sometimes throw random distros on to take them for a spin. It's kind of fun.

Re: Duck,duck,go

I use StartPage as my default search engine, then go to SearX, with Google, DuckDuckGo, and Bing turned on in the Engines section, among others, if I need to go further. I rarely need to go beyond StartPage and SearX.

Re: Soon you can have the 'joy' of a Windows subscription

I seem to recall, back when Win 10 was new and beginning to replace Win 7, that Microsoft denied Win 10 would become a subscription service. Now here we are. I suspect that users will be able to subscribe to the "deluxe" version or use the "pleb" version. I have to think it will ...

Deepin 15.9 released

I'm going to throw it in a spare partition and take it for a spin to see what's new and improved. If nothing else it's a fun way to play around with Sid. It's actually an interesting DE. Yeah, I don't buy all that FUD about Chinese spying. Like they have nothing better to do than spy on random Linux...

Re: MX Distro for "not new" users

MX is not a "noob" distro. By that I mean it's not designed specifically for people new to linux to help them get acclimated. It might be fine for some new users but not all of them. I think you'll find a lot of experienced Linux users using MX. It pushes all the right buttons for people o...

Re: Good DE for someone coming from Android phone

He'll run Quickbooks Online, so that won't be a problem. I hadn't really thought about KDE, and Deepin sounds interesting. I will check them both out. I like the idea of KDE on MX, actually. I might give that a shot first, but on a fresh install on a different partition. Then I might reinstall Ubunt...
