I wonder if there's a problem with quoting.... this seems to work [ $(expr \( `echo "$1" | wc -c` % 2 \)) -eq 1 ] A small explanation == compares strings -eq compares numbers. If you run something like [ 1 == "expr 1" ] you get an error if you run [ "expr 1" == "expr 1" ] it would work because it's ...

Hope he won't, but he might switch to DVD for the next release, with KDE 4 being a bit fatter I don't see other way to keep everything needed on a CD...

Well... if you get the 20 Debian CDs you probably get the program you want, but Ubuntu is one CD only... they probably dropped whatever they thought is used by fewer people.

I think many people are still judging KDE4 based on their experiences with 4.0. Do not forget that KDE 4 has matured over the past year and grown into something different. Vista just remains Vista..... I agree 4.2 is way better than 4.0 (except that my last upgrade from Debian unreleased repo borke...

I like old clunkers. Especially when the new clunkers don't have all the features of the old ones (that being said KDE 4.2 comes closer, by 4.3 it will probably be very nice)

hmm well for some time, it did start automatically.. when finished booting, it'd ask me for root pass and then it'd start. oh well, thanks anyway. Oh, it depends on KDE setting, it's possible to start it automatically if you have "save session" enabled, if you closed Firestarter and then restarted ...
