grubx64.efi fixes the problem when copied over either bootx64.efi or to mmx64.efi. In either case, there is no briefly flashing error message before grub appears. I got the new installer, but it is complaining about libqt5core5a >= 5.11.0-rc1 and mine is 5.7.1+dfsg-3+deb9u1

Sounds like it will take quite a few updates to get this working??
