Thanks everyone for the help.
I got another printer USB cable and now it seems to be working fine.
So, it appears the cable was bad like some had suggested.

Re: Lightweight browsers [Solved]
Waterfox has been good for me, but I switched to Librewolf to try it out.
Librewolf works just fine for me; will stick with it for now.

Re: Computer ps won't turn on when usb printer plugged in
Yea, I know that, but I don't think any ports are shorting out. I think the printer is somehow loading down the computer power supply preventing enough voltage to start. I say that because the second computer, which has a new 500 watt ps, has most of its USB ports disabled when the printer is plugge...

Re: Computer ps won't turn on when usb printer plugged in
As I said in the first post, it doesn't matter if the printer is on or off, same result. Update: I tried the printer on another desktop with a 500 watt power supply, and the problem doesn't exist. HOWEVER, on both desktops, when the printer is plugged in (either printer on or printer off), most of t...

kde install
I'm using MX-21 with the xfce desktop.
If I install the kde desktop and decide I don't like it,
can I go back to xfce with no harm done ?

Re: Restart not working
Well, I ran that command: sudo update-initramfs -uk all and then I booted into 5.10.0-18 five times from a restart. It worked only 1 out of the 5 tries. Also, when I ran that command, the following line appeared 16 times: W: Possible missing firmware /lib/firmware/i915/skl_guc_69.0.3.bin for module ...

Re: Restart not working
If I use that command and try 5.10 kernel again and it works,
should I stick with 5.10 or should I continue to use 5.18 ?
What's the upside/downside of using the older 5.10 vs the 5.18 ?

Re: Restart not working
Well, I loaded kernel 5.18 and booted to that kernel from a restart and it booted ok. I then did a restart 5 more times, booting to the 5.18 kernel and it worked every time. Using 5.18 appears to have remedied my restart problem. However, I was watching the screen when 5.18 was installing and it kep...

Re: Restart not working
The only other kernel that i have loaded right now is 5.10.0-17 I have tried it with that kernel and I have tried it with 5.10.0-18 and 5.10.0-17 using systemd, but the results are the same. Actually, it seems to work more like 1 out of 4 or 5 tries rather than 1 out of 10. Should I load 5.18 and tr...
