Re: Who says you can't come home?
Finally back after installing MX KDE. Feels good. Lots of data retrieval and tweaking and configging to do, but that's what long weekends are for, right? I'll no doubt have some stoopid questions and will most likely step on some peoples' toes, but I'll try not to cause too much trouble. Good to se...

Re: Ram use fresh boot
Thanks! Will take a look at seamonkey. Browsers eat up most of the memory and give cpu's the biggest workout, at least in my usage.

Re: Ram use fresh boot
Seaken64 posted a howto in Tips&Tricks on this very subject. He has a step-by-step guide for getting MX to run on (in his case) a Pentium III system with IIRC 500MB of RAM and turn it into a still-usable computer. Search Tips&Tricks for fluxbox and you'll find it. Will take a look at that. ...

Re: Ram use fresh boot
A quick way is to first check if there are any applications autostarted that you don't really need under Whisker menu > Settings > "Session and Startup". One thing to understand is that just because RAM is used doesn't mean it is being wasted, it's more of the efficiency of RAM utilizatio...

Ram use fresh boot
I'm seeing about 550 mb ram use with a fresh boot. I've disabled compositing and have conky disabled. Wondering if there are other ways to speed it up, use less ram? I'm not hurting for ram, but have a lightweight cpu (Braswell) and I'm trying to see how light I can get MX 19.

Re: has an MX update made my X220 run a bit hotter?
X220 gets hot when it's under a constant load. Mine got hot when running Windows 10, that's one reason I switched it to Linux. It ran incredible on MX 18 before I gave it to my daughter. You might turn off the compositor to save a bit of ram/cpu load, maybe a few other tweaks could cool it down. Cle...

Re: Don't do it Libreoffice 7
Here is LibreOffice's board statement and they are asking for feedback: https://blog.documentfoundation.org/blog/2020/07/06/board-statement-on-the-libreoffice-7-0rc-personal-edition-label/ The first response in the comment section under the post sums up my feelings exactly: I suggest using “the othe...

Re: Don't do it Libreoffice 7
Redhat/Fedora model would be awful :( Corporate interests will always trump community interests. But I suspect that's where LibreOffice is heading. I saw a comment in a post on Ars not long ago that said IBM provided support for OpenOffice in corporate settings. I actually just found a link about it...
