I think there's also a graphical boot analyzer package that works under sysvinit but I can't remember what it's called.

Bootchart2 is in the repos and preinstalled under MX18 (dunno about 19)

Re: Dedoimedo: the end of a long, beautiful run?

If you ignore the XFCE and app stuff, it's a pretty good review - although it does remind me of something that occurred to me when 19 was released... I was surprised how early the release date was, especially considering the new Debian base plus a new XFCE version. IIRC, didn't December used to be t...

Re: Requests Net Activity View(er)

In case it's not compatible with Buster; you can use

Code: Select all

netstat -antp
in the terminal to see connections. If you want to see the names of the programs use sudo and if you want a continuously updated output add the "c" option - so

Code: Select all

sudo netstat -antpc

Re: Installing MX19 resulted in two home partitions

If your user name was "fred" you'll probably have /home/fred and /home/.fred . just delete the /home/fred folder and delete the "." from /home/.fred and logout and back in. If you've any doubts in your head before doing this, backup both folders first - that way you've lost nothi...

Re: su-to-root -X -c --- question...bug?

This might or might not be of help, as I'm running xfce not your aforementioned desktops: I have a script in ~/bin (which is in my $PATH) that is for when gksu(do) is no longer supported. I've named it "Gksudo" and it contains just one line: xfce4-terminal --command="sudo -H -i -u roo...

Install MX19 + reuse home - all good...

but just one bug. Installed preserving Home (MX 18.3) - much clearer "reuse home" options than the the original confusing four option dialog in the Beta. Erm... that's it, nothing bad happened ;) After a few tweaks and installing my favourite programs, everything as I like it and working a...

Just in case anyone found this thread useful (I have my doubts ;) ), and are using firejail : You'll have a problem trying to run thunderbird (or anything else) from Home using firejail . firejail won't allow anything to run from Home, so firejail /home/your_username/thunderbird/thunderbird will fai...

Re: Microsoft Defender goes Linux

[...] Just like being forced into quitting smoking cold-turkey after ~45yrs, takes some work, but do-able. Day 4 and I have not killed anyone, yet. I quit after 44 years (no choice COPD) - I just stopped May 2012, not even thought about smoking again since. This doesn't work for everyone, but...

Re: Microsoft Defender goes Linux

OK, just for a bit of perspective... How does this fit in with all the anti-MS talk? ;) The whole anti-Microsoft thing was sometimes funny as a joke, but not really. Today, they’re actually much friendlier. I talk to Microsoft engineers at various conferences, and I feel like, yes, they have changed...
