There is a warning pop-up that says it will format /home and destroy any data that's there. The default behavior was carefully chosen because most of the time it's not a good idea to save home. The only recommended way is to save home and use a different User. Then transfer data that may be needed. ...

I've never had my User settings changed when I installed the proprietary nvidia driver. Evidently it can happen. Perhaps the Login as root made a difference. (It should not have of course.)

You can try MX-14.4 or MX-15 also. antiX should run pretty darn well on a dual processor system depending on speed of the processors. 2 GB of memory is plenty for either OS.

My Atom 270 is 32 bit only. And it's only about 4 to 5 years old.
