Re: Inspiron 15 5593 dual boot grub not detecting W10 [Solved]
That's OK, I did edit a bit for clarity after posting, but have done all the usual steps that I normally would and feel confident I'm not skipping the basics.

Inspiron 15 5593 dual boot grub not detecting W10 [Solved]
My Dell Inspiron 15 5593 was recently prepared to set up dual boot with MX, a partition and swap happily waiting for the moment. I thought this would be simple, finally changing Bios drive setting from Raid to AHCI, this finally allowing a live USB to see the internal SSD on my laptop (which had unt...

Re: I have a desktop background with same wallpaper ... [Solved]
Can you navigate to different folders when choosing another wallpaper? You do need to enter the directory where the image is located, then select that image, this done in a couple of steps. It's possible to inadvertently not complete the process, and find wallpaper unchanged.

Re: The following signatures couldn't be verified
You should install wine via MX Package Manager.
https://mxlinux.org/wiki/system/wine/
would be a good start, to help check if Wine is set up correctly.

Thank you, yes, they are inexpensive so I'll just give it a go. I can see it being convenient for occasional jobs.

Re: USB to SATA Hard Drive Adapters [Solved]
OK, my main interest is to recycle a internal desktop PC DVD unit, rather than purchase a new external DVD reader/writer, by getting a connector kit(skipping the caddy option).

USB to SATA Hard Drive Adapters [Solved]
Just a general question, in using a laptop more often with MX in a VM, and occasionally wanting to read or burn optical media. Do USB to SATA Hard Drive Adapters work effectively when connected to things like DVD devices? Is there anything special to look out for or avoid? They seem pretty cheap onl...

Re: How can I configure the programs in the panel to be with text next to the icons? [Solved]
XFCE makes panel windows buttons a bit easier to customise, but it's not immediately obvious in settings.Does this help for KDE? https://docs.kde.org/stable5/en/khelpcenter/fundamentals/config.html Customizing Toolbar Appearance You can change the appearance of toolbars by right-clicking on a toolba...

Re: NTFS partition mounts read-only
I just noticed a write issue on my ntfs data partition. I confirmed via Disk Manager* that it auto mounted on start, and discovered that rather than being ntfs 'unknown' as I've sometimes seen in the past, the following appeared (*you might need to install Disk Manager via MPI): NTFS.png I changed i...

Re: The meaning of "open source" has been changed
Perhaps we need an Open Source and Public Domain Institute, that can oversee this pernicious misuse of language, issue rulings from the supreme council, and expose those who are bringing the side down? But then, who watches the watchers to keep things honest? Is there actually a way to register mate...
