Re: What browser does everyone use

I mainly use Firefox, but also use Chrome and SeaMonkey occasionally.

In the last month or two I've also started using Links (Stevo's links2 package) and Netsurf to view sites such as the Washington Post which disable reading articles for free when you're not a subscriber.

Re: Auto install updates?

So in a nutshell, the auto update uses apt upgrade, so doing a full-upgrade and/or auto-remove once in a while is necessary. Does the updater notify you of this when the time comes? In the few months since I switched to MX, haven't had one bad update (I do stick to the stable repositories though). ...

2) During boot, is there a key to switch to text mode?
It's been a long time since I used plymouth, but if I recall correctly I think you can press the Esc key to switch to text mode, or in text mode press it to go back to the graphical boot.

Re: MX 15 Repository: The firefox thread

firefox-61.0 is now available to upgrade to from the main repository. For MX-15/16 I'm still seeing 60.0.2 as the version that's available (and I just reloaded repos a couple minutes ago). $ apt-cache policy firefox firefox: Installed: 60.0.2~mozillabinaries-1mx15+1 Candidate: 60.0.2~mozillabinarie...

Re: scripting help

...If I have this: cat /sys/class/net/wlan0/statistics/{rx,tx}_bytes | paste -sd+ | bc | awk '{print $1/(1024*1024)}' >> /home/mrpolite/sum.txt , running in a loop which I don't yet know how to accomplish, then I can use the Generic Monitor panel plugin to read the sum.txt file for the value I want...

Re: scripting help

What I would like to do is add the values from rx_bytes and tx_bytes, then display the value in kilo bytes, rather then just bytes... I think this snippet of code will get the sum of rx_bytes and tx_bytes and convert to kilo bytes cat /sys/class/net/wlan0/statistics/{rx,tx}_bytes | paste -sd+ | bc ...

Re: Unmet Dependencies (libfontconfig1)

Hmm, it looks like I have a higher version of libfontconfig1 (2.12.1-0.1mx150+1) on my MX-16 install than the one MX-17 is using (2.11.0-6.7+b1) . $ apt-cache policy libfontconfig1 libfontconfig1: Installed: 2.12.1-0.1mx150+1 Candidate: 2.12.1-0.1mx150+1 Version table: *** 2.12.1-0.1mx150+1 0 500 ht...

Re: Stevo's MX16-KDE: strange issue with root password

In MX-17 checkaptgpg in KDE is now started like this: https://github.com/MX-Linux/checkaptgpg ... esktop#L22

But didn't put out a update for MX-15/16. (didn't feel like installing KDE on MX-15/16 to test it)
