Re: CLI search text files...

Here is some feedback for you... After looking quickly through the list of "solutions" at the link I provided in an earlier post, I could not decide if one was better than another for use at the command line. Most looked quite specific - and not exactly what I needed. (However, there were ...

Re: CLI search text files...

Thanks, Both. Not quite what I was looking for. FYI I went looking on Net for something, and found this webpage. https://stackoverflow.com/questions/16956810/find-all-files-containing-a-specific-text-string-on-linux It has had 10.9 million views. Re: black screen blinking cursor Kernel 6.0.18

Hello, MXNewFan Interesting reading. Having experienced the dreaded BLANK/BLACK SCREEN thing I, too, went looking for an answer. It seems there are lots of people out there who get the boot to blank screen. Some get lucky, and find some fix or other; some don't get fixed. So I have concluded there a...

Re: Oh, no! Not the dreaded black/blank screen thing!!! Noooooo!!!!

Hi, Y'all As you know MX Linux boots to sysVinit OR systemd. Fabulous! Anyway, after my blank/black screen problem remains unsolved I was still very puzzled that my laptop boots normally to full systemd option, while the sysVinit boot fails to a blank/black screen. So after checking through the info...

CLI search text files...

Hello, Each! Please help with a CLI command. (I don't usually work in command line.) I would like a command that searches through files in a directory-AND-sub-directory structure, and reports ANY file that CONTAINS TEXT, then SHOWS the first 8 (10?) lines of that file. (The filename should be report...

Re: Oh, no! Not the dreaded black/blank screen thing!!! Noooooo!!!!

wait... console not a terminal, the same as when using startx Sorry, dolph, I don't know what you meant there. Before seeing that I was about to follow-up with this... Considering that I am working in >> systemd << (and that I am most comfortable in the GUI mode) is there a way I can change boot se...

Re: Oh, no! Not the dreaded black/blank screen thing!!! Noooooo!!!!

I think the xwayland stuff is a red-herring. it would have been brought in with the kde stuff. from your console login (where you were using startx), please post cat /proc/cmdline and runlevel and might as well try sudo service lightdm start Thanks dolphin_oracle... (I thought it best to include a ...

Re: Oh, no! Not the dreaded black/blank screen thing!!! Noooooo!!!!

dolphin_oracle, as a bit of an explanation... I had an excellent experience with MX 19. (I might one day talk about the MINOR battery monitor thing.) So with that easy experience with 19, and having installed 23 and used it, I decided to install a few things - ONLY USING THE PACKAGE MANAGERS ON THE ...

I think maybe posting the apt-history (available in quick-system-info) may be beneficial. As requested. 2024-03-15 14:32:51 upgrade libglx-mesa0:i386 23.1.2-1~mx23ahs 23.1.2-1~mx23ahs 2024-03-15 14:32:51 upgrade libglx-mesa0:amd64 23.1.2-1~mx23ahs 23.1.2-1~mx23ahs 2024-03-13 16:37:23 upgrade lightd...

Re: Oh, no! Not the dreaded black/blank screen thing!!! Noooooo!!!!

lightdm-modified-init package is a package, not a file. You should not be searching for it in file manager, but installing it from the repos. Are you able to install it with apt, ie sudo apt install lightdm-modified-init The reason why I think that you should try (first) to get to your login screen...
