Re: What should I back up?

........ Back up the entire system with mx-snapshot then. That's probably the easiest solution. Copying programs doesn't really work in Linux either (you could copy .debs that you installed from APT cache though, that in /var/cache/apt/archives/) Mx-snapshot is really the easiest and best solution.

Re: Wireless lost after failing during dist upgrade

Why not get a "USB 2.0 to RJ45 Gigabit Ethernet Network Adapter"?
They are low-priced and readily obtainable.

Success!

Posting with it now

Thanks again, Dave.

P.S. This is an old eeepc901 with defunct internal wifi - rather slow but quite usable with MX.

Re: Nearly unusable system

Of course we we do not yet know whether tumbler(d) is the culprit here.
But, just in case, here is my tuppenceworth:-
I have found that MX is perfectly usable with tumbler completely removed.

Dave, Please give details of your working nano dongle. My nano dongle Bus 005 Device 002: ID 7392:7811 Edimax Technology Co., Ltd EW-7811Un 802.11n Wireless Adapter [Realtek RTL8188CUS] works for only a few minutes before losing connection. So I would like to obtain a more usable nano dongle. Best w...

Re: Vmware workstation 14 "/dev/vmmon" error

I do hope Vmware can be persuaded to run in MX: it is better than Virtualbox in some respects.
Screenshot of W98se running in VMwareplayer in Mepis 7:-

Vbox does not work nearly as well with W98.

Re: Can anyone recommend to me a cheapish, current model notebook that loves Linux?

I endorse the recommendations for 12 inch Lenovo thinkpads. You can get 12-volt chargers for them.
And you can get docking stations with DVD read/writers.

P.S. I have two X200 machines: they work very well dual-booting MX and W7.
