Re: Google, Apple and Microsoft.
I think that Microsoft and Apple were evil initiates for creating and pushing the concept that end users are licensees and not true owners of hardware and software. Google rapidly became evil by embracing and extending the notion that users' data is their data. I see Microsoft and Google as equal o...

Re: The new computer build
Thanks for the input! And yeah.. I like my stuff to last as well. Not into overclocking either here. Pretty much the same way of thinking as you do :) Do you have the standard CPU cooler that came with the Ryzen 2600? Or? How are the temps on that CPU? I'm using the stock cooler, which is the small...

Re: Microsoft would like to bring Edge to Linux
Microsoft keeps cozening up to Linux. I'm curious what their end game may be. I'm thinking that they might be considering getting out of the operating system business in favour of selling their other products as services. Consider that their recent track record hasn't been all that stellar: - they ...

Re: Microsoft would like to bring Edge to Linux
I would consider installing it for one thing: Netflix Currently, if you want HD Netflix on Linux, as far as I'm aware the only route is to use a plugin for Chrome. If it worked out of the box for Edge, I might try it. FWIW, Edge currently is the only browser that does Netflix in 4K. No other good re...

Re: Things Break
I really don't want a smart fridge, even if it's running linux. Just not enough advantage for the additional complexity. Some things are worth it. A computer is a lot more complicated than paper and a pencil, but I would presume that everyone on this forum thinks it's worth having a computer.

Re: Things Break
Is it about trying not to be a victim consumer? To think through your purchases and which things are meaningfully functional, and which are junk.
Without knowing for sure, I'd predict that Linux users have a relatively high proportion of people that think about the above.

Re: Thank you MX Linux
Lol. Love the way this topic is heading. I want an MX pyramid hat. For the MX veterans, Is there anything in the MX package installer that can repair my DNA, and should me PC be facing north, south, east or west? Seriously, after a couple of rocky patches likely caused by something iffy in my old PC...

Re: The new computer build
Given that all of my problems in life seem to trace back to my Nvidia card, I was thinking about an RX 580. They seems to have some great price reductions and should have a bit more oomph than a 1050 Ti. A fair bit more power consumed, if that's important.
