Re: Backup Linux system

The recent kernel issue "killed" a number of systems and I don't like to keep all my eggs in a single basket. If something bad happens to MX during the transition to MX-19, I will have a system to use until it gets ironed out. I have no plans to change my daily system unless something bad ...

Backup Linux system

MX has been my daily driver for several years and I'm happy with it. This being said, with the big changes on the horizon and the nasty kernel issues I decided to have a backup system ready to go. Debated on what to use and decided to keep it simple and use the latest Lubuntu LTS. Downloaded the lat...

Re: What init system do you use on MX, the default (sysVinit) or systemd?

I use whatever the default is for any Linux system I run, I could really care less what init system is used as long as the computer boots and behaves as it should...

Re: Give me a few reasons WHY

Simplest reason is one system to master and maintain. I run the exact same systems on all my machines (have 4 in the house). I install MX, add and remove programs, tweak the system as I like it, then make a personal snapshot. I use the snapshot to install on my other machines...

Re: Who runs MX from USB and why?

I guess I'm just dull as I don't need a portable system since the only computers I use are my own and have installed systems. I swap out hard drives when I'm testing stuff as it only takes a minute and I have lots of spare drives. One thing I check before I buy any laptop (haven't owned a desktop in...

Re: Who runs MX from USB and why?

I may be thick but I have yet to hear why as I really don't see a USB system will be faster/better than an installed system. About the only use I can see is as a portable system I can use on computers that I don't own. Never use any computers except my own so I have never seen the need for a portabl...

Re: Any other readers here?

Just finished the "Marching with Casear" series by RW Peake and I enjoyed it a lot. Reading The Bernicia Chronicles by Matthew Harffy now. Read the final book in the Dragonheart series by Griff Hosker yesterday - sad to see it end for sure...

Who runs MX from USB and why?

Just a question I've had for a while now. The only time I ever run the system from a USB drive is to install from a snapshot as the slowness would drive me nuts. The last SSD I bought was a 225GB from Walmart for $29, which is as cheap as a good USB 3.0 thumb drive. While I have never run MX from a ...

Re: Any other readers here?

The reason I like using tablets to read is I can set the background and text color as well as the font size. Some days I use a very large font, other days a smaller font works. I'll be 64 in a month and age does not help vision, although I never had great vision to begin with. I currently use a Leno...

Re: Any other readers here?

Another good author for Roman historical fiction is Anthony Riches. His Empire series (10th book came out this month) is fun reading. I read strictly for pleasure and I most enjoy a series where the characters are realistic and likeable. Another author to check out for Parthian historical fiction (a...
