The system running here now was booted from a DVD and it is working perfectly except that the DVD makes it slow.
Nothing has been written to hdd/dvd: it is working entirely from RAM.

Clarification:-
I am posting now from a live-DVD session on the W11 machine.
It works fine but is slow because it has to read the DVD to do anything.

In what way? Because booting / installing from a USB drive has been the de facto standard for some time.

Yes, but it does not work on a W11 machine because Microsoft will not read ext4: it happily reads DVDs.

Now using the W11 machine running MX2364 from DVD.

Must confess I find W11 quite pleasant to use.
