Re: Installing from "oldlibs" SOLVED

The problem I encountered with Virtualbox was that the 32-bit versions of MX I tried needed a PAE-compliant processor. For some reason, Virtualbox wasn't compatible. I went back several years, but didn't do an exhaustive explore as I wasn't desperate.

Re: Installing from "oldlibs" SOLVED

Thanks, peterstone.

I decided not to install WP 8 on my 64-bit install. I attempted to install 32-bit Linux inside VirtualBox, but none of several past distros were compatible. Your site looks like the goto place for WP installation and I will give your ideas a try. Thank you for posting!

Thanks for the direction and the tip. I have wondered if the old 32-bit software might be a problem, too.

Installing from "oldlibs" SOLVED

I have a CD of WordPerfect 8 for Linux I bought years ago and used until Linux libraries changed. I wanted to install it again but need to install some library files from Debian "oldlibs." The files are xlib6, libc5, and xpm 4.7. I presume these are uniquely labeled from subsequent distrib...

Head_on_a_Stick

Thanks for the correction. My initial attempt would have worked if structured correctly! As is obvious, I have become mostly a gui customer, but really like the clarity and power of the command line.

Re: Retrieving data from a qemu virtual machine

fehlix,

Very slick! And many thanks! Unmounting from Thunar also worked at the end. This was my first exposure to loop devices. Anyway, I copied my files off of the mounted .img file. Life is good!

Retrieving data from a qemu virtual machine

I am using MX-17. I wanted to run an old DOS program called Leading Edge word processor to export some old files from 20 years ago to text files. I tried running LE.exe in a DOSbox, but it was not compatible. I then tried using VirtualBox with MSDOS6.22, but there didn't seem to be a way to get data...
