Re: request - youtube-dl broken (again) upstream works ok

Should we consider installing youtube-dl the "right" way ? The benefit is that users can upgrade to the lastest version via: sudo youtube-dl -U There seems to be a "war" between Google and youtube-dl. Google keeps making changes that break youtube-dl and then the devs keep fixing it. By allowing use...

Re: USB with Persistence after yesterdays Kernel update system not booting into XFCE Desktop

I've attached a small tarball that contains a script tailored for your situation. The tarball is named nilso-kernel-update.tgz and the script it contains is "nilso-kernel-update". IIUC you were able to copy things to your live-usb before. Download this tarball and copy it to the /Live-usb-storage/de...

Re: "Fixing" problem USBs

Well I don't really agree that the live-usb-maker tool is necessarily any safer than the simple commands I listed because the all it does it list any connected drives that have "1" in /sys/block/sdX/removable and this would include any USB-attached drives. 1) How would you recommend we automaticall...

Re: USB with Persistence after yesterdays Kernel update system not booting into XFCE Desktop

Hello, here are the outputs of all 4 commands, sorry that i did't find any better way to capture them: its all about the MX18.3 installation not the one named with orig in the beginning, that was just a try to get the kernel update working from another installation. Okay, got it. Perfect. The pictu...

Re: USB with Persistence after yesterdays Kernel update system not booting into XFCE Desktop

Filesystem on stick looks like in the attached pictures Thanks! This is why live-kernel-updater failed to work. Yumi created a different file structure that our live-kernel-updater program was not expecting. Most live-usb creation tools, such as Yumi, do not support all of our advanced live feature...

Re: Help with Random Desktop Lock-up?

I did a search for (linux Intel HD Graphics 5500 (Broadwell GT2)) and found that other people are reporting system freezes with this graphics hardware. So I think the problem is related to your choice of hardware. There have been a lot of bugs with the i915 driver for Intel graphics. Often there is ...

Re: Upgrade question

That is probably the case. You need to exclude them in the snapshot configuration. I have done the that so timeshift snapshots are not copied to MX Sanpshot. There are a lot of bytes there especially if you keep 3 Timeshift snaps.. Are timeshifts kept in a standard location? If so then maybe we can...

Did I make a mistake by installing linux-image-5.1.11-antix.1-amd64-smp?
No! You are fine. The problem was only with one specific MX kernel upgrade. Any non-MX kernel should be fine and it is only one MX kernel upgrade that caused a problem.

Re: Upgrade question

After a bit of head scratching I think I might have figured out the problem. I've got Timeshift installed, and it keeps 4 snapshots. Is MX snapshot adding these snapshots to the snapshot it creates? The numbers suggest this is the case. If it is can MX snapshot skip any snapshots created by Timeshi...
