Re: MX18b1x64 Boot Options change not sticking?

What version of mx-boot-options? What is the GRUB-DEFAULT= line in /etc/default/grub (try with one kernel and give me that line, try with another and give me again that line) MX-Boot-Options version 18.12 1st Kernel data: 4.19.0-1-amd64 GRUB_DEFAULT="MX 18 Continuum, with Linux 4.19.0-1-amd64" Syst...

Re: Thermald lowers temps - Whoopee!

Ran it again with 4 threads and xz compression --temps ca. 87°C, size 3.6GB and time 55 minutes. Not a speed demos but it's cool and doesn't over stress the CPU from 2012. System: Host: mx171 Kernel: 4.19.0-1-amd64 x86_64 bits: 64 compiler: gcc v: 6.3.0 Desktop: Xfce 4.12.3 Distro: MX-18_x64 Continu...

MX18b1x64 Boot Options change not sticking? SOLVED

On MX18b1x64 migration w/4.19.0-1-amd64, for me, MX-Boot-Options doesn't actually set the kernel to be booted although it gives no error nor does it hold the "Boot previously booted". Grub Customizer does set the kernel desired to boot first. System: Host: mx171 Kernel: 4.19.0-1-amd64 x86_64 bits: 6...

Re: debiandog's quickremaster for mx-linux

No, it was just less hot. :) But I have found a better way. Thermald allows using xz compression and 2 cores while keeping temps at 87°C compared to 102°C without it, on the T430. Note: and the same temperatures with 4 threads. It does slow the system down. Looking for a way to turn off Thermald exc...

Thermald lowers temps - Whoopee!

Trials on T430 demonstrate that thermald is key to controlling temperatures while snapshotting (squashing filesystem).

Currently running snapshot with xz & 2 threads while temps average 87°C; where previously they maxed out at 102°C.

More info after snapshot completes.

Re: debiandog's quickremaster for mx-linux

The clear winner for me in my test for snapshot compression is "gz". The snapshot config file says, comment out the parameter to only use "gz". ; Comment out below to use gz compression. Faster, but iso size is bigger. ; To make resulting iso even smaller use "-comp xz -b 262144" #mksq_opt=-comp xz ...

Re: debiandog's quickremaster for mx-linux

More like the ACPI in the "BIOS", plus how good your cooling solution is at the moment. That was one of the things we looked at in choosing the laptop I'm using to build packages, which puts similar 100% stress on the CPU for long periods for many package builds. Came across the thermald tool which...

Re: MX-17 to MX-18 update testing

Thanks Stevo. I'll go look for the 4.19 kernel. I just applied the "/etc/apt/sources.list.d/devrepo.list" migration to the T430. Made an uptodate MX171-Horizon-x64 before. :) And now, running MX18b1-Continuum-x64 with very few tweaks required, mostly cosmetic [Notes below]: Most things in the Notifi...
