Re: HP P1102w Printer

Richard, were you able to get wireless working in the 30 minutes you spent setting up the printer? I seldom run wireless, but I do have an open plug on my router, and I am presuming I could use the printer from all three systems if I chose to use that connection. Nope, not yet, just plugged in the ...

Re: HP P1102w Printer

When this thread began, my P1102w was in the box on the floor. I had read that it was Linux compatible before purchasing. Today, I setup it up and was printing in about half an hour. I used localhost:631 for CUPS to remove the old 1020. Then ran hp-setup from root console to setup the 1102. and the ...

Re: favorite pdf editor?

Hi Mike, In the article that Jerry referenced, which mentions PdfEdit and OpenOffice.org, PdfEdit isn't in the repo and although I used OOo since before it would print, I haven't used OpenOffice since the fork. I have used both MasterPdfEditor and LibreOffice Draw recently, currently using LibO-5.0....

Re: MEPIS 12 Community Repository - the HPLIP thread

I mentioned this in the Printer Problem thread, but this thread is more apropos: Just a note on updates to hplip (HP Linux Printing and Imaging System). On the last couple of updates, I have found that it does work well with my aging HP 1020 LaserJet. The only issue is after each update, I need to r...

Re: Printer problems

Just a note on updates to hplip (HP Linux Printing and Imaging System). I have found that it does work well with my aging HP 1020 LaserJet. The only issue is after each update, I need to re-download the firmware. That can be done from the GUI or from the CLI with hp-firmware . Then, a reboot seems t...

Re: MX-14 desktops

I do like all the conkys I'm seeing (I started using it myself again as you can see on my latest desktop on pg 23). Conky is a neat tool; however, on under-powered netbooks, all that stuff executing every couple of seconds takes a toll on the CPU and temperature. I have reduced mine down to the inf...
