Re: adding to the path

Hello, New user, settling in to MX-Linux (MX-17_January_x64). So far, so good :) I want to import some apps from my other distro(s). In an attempt to avoid confusion, I have created /usr/FDlibs and /usr/FDapps. I want those directories in the paths, so I added PATH="$PATH:/usr/FDapps" immediately b...

Re: MX17 - KDE?

Hi Greywolf, totally respect your perspective here. I will amend what I said and just state that "it's silly for ME to be running manjaro when rolling is not important to me." I guess I could run SolydK, but I like the Mepis community. Not here to make waves, I appreciate all of the work that those...

Re: MX17 - KDE?

So @cgriffin, it appears what you actually don't like the thing that I think is silly about Manjaro is all of the nonstop updates is the rolling nature of Manjaro, not so much the actual distro functionality. That's ok but a bit harsh to call it "silly" when they make no secret of what they are and ...

Re: I Have Occasionally Wondered....

Thanks for the link. I think I do remember reading that, amongst the senior moments :)

As my adored grandma used to say; "all good things come to those who wait". I LOVE MX, as I did Mepis KDE for so long.

I Have Occasionally Wondered....

I have occasionally wondered why it takes as long as it does for a new Antix & MX version to emerge after a Debian Stable release? Just occasionally mind; and then I go back to using the previous rock solid, superlative version I'm already using and forget my mad moment of impatience. The patient wa...

Re: Syntax error puzzling me

I think you left a blank between the redirection and ${Trash} you should write 2>>${Trash} However I don't see the point of redirecting the stderr, there's no stderr for a comparison as far as I know, you should probably just use: if [ 0 -lt ${size} ] ; then Thanks, Adrian. You were spot on. I foun...

[SOLVED]-Syntax error puzzling me

I am sure there is a very simple explanantion to this problem that is just eluding my weary mind at present? This line in a bash script is not parsing - I think I may have the right bracket in the wrong place? The error message is "couln't parse this test expression". I would appreciate it if anyone...

Re: Primus laptops

I agree with Anti; within limited resources the devs here have provided a solution that does work, and it works fine, even on this cantankerous Asus X555U machine. Is it everyone's preferred solution, probably not. I bought this machine not even knowing it was 'Optimus' enabled. Whilst I would not k...

Re: Primus laptops

primus laptops have a Intekl Graphic Card and a Nvidia graphic card and just installing a Nvidia driver, sadly, doesn't work. I think you will find they are usually referred to as 'Optimus' computers. The two alternative commands under Bumblebee solutions are 'optirun' or 'primusrun'. You can searc...
