Re: Installing Oracle Java

I'd like to summarize how I installed Java JRE on my MX 18. All code and instructions are courtesy of fehlix. This method should work for any debian based linux. I downloaded the current Java JRE tar.gz file for linux from the Java website. https://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp That file was d...

Re: Installing Oracle Java

My bad too Fehlix. I thought it was a syntax error but I focused too hard and missed the obvious dropped "s". I not only have Java installed, but my other piece of software is now installed and all is operational. I cannot thank you enough for your help. I have some tweaking to do to the system and ...

Re: Installing Oracle Java

Thanks Richard and Stevo for your input. I was aware MX did not support apt add repository directly. Fehlix... I've heard of scripts but have never used one, so it makes more sense on why I was initially confused on all the text. I still feel like a bonehead though since I can't even save the script...

Re: Installing Oracle Java

Hello again Fehlix. Thank you for your feedback. Getting Java installed is very important to me since the program I use daily relies on Oracle Java. I will take this one step at a time so please forgive me for the snails pace. But I want to understand and be certain I am doing things right. I am not...

[Solved] Installing Oracle Java

Hi again Forum. I'm stumped. I've spent the better part of a day trying every trick I can find to install the Oracle version of JRE or JDK. I have a piece of software that needs the Oracle version of Java which I use daily. I've never had a problem in past Linux distros to add Java. The easiest way ...

Re: SOLVED Windows 10 Dual Boot but MX Linux doesn't show up

Good Morning to all and thank you for the kind comments. It was a team effort and required persistence from everyone involved. I sure learned a lot in a hurry. I started out as a novice and ended up being a professional novice. As my Dad would say, I know just enough to be dangerous. ;) The develope...

SOLVED Re: Windows 10 Dual Boot but MX Linux doesn't show up

I'd like to wrap this thread up with a summary of how I dual booted windows 10 home edition and MX18. The computer was a brand new Lenovo M720 tower with a 240 G SSD drive, 500 G Hard drive and 16 G Optane memory. On my first attempt to create a dual boot computer, I essentially destroyed windows 10...

Re: Windows 10 Dual Boot but MX Linux doesn't show up

By golly, we have lift off! Complete success! I have no clue what created the hassles for the last few days since I rolled right through the install this time and I'm not aware I did anything different between windows shrink and MX install. Of course I did do some things in BIOS and I did a complete...

Re: Windows 10 Dual Boot but MX Linux doesn't show up

I'm back. I wasn't sure of the timing of any response and decided to go ahead with the windows reinstall before I got info on using gdisk. It took me about 5 hours to finally get windows 10 back up and running. I went to windows disc management and there were only 3 partitions. Then I went to MX USB...

Re: Windows 10 Dual Boot but MX Linux doesn't show up

Fehlix... I've understood the vast majority of the information you and other members have supplied and your explanation of having the SATA set up for RAID makes sense with the individual devices set for Non RAID. But you lost me with repairing GPT tables by using gdisk. I will go in and disable the ...
