Where did eric come from?

I've been struggling with a broken eclipse on my MX14 (does eclipse work for anybody else?) when I came accross something called eric in synaptic. WOW! Preconfigured at 1st launch with plugins for python and ruby abd Qt4 all inside one IDE! Is anybody here using eric? If anybody is looking for what ...

I'll follow your advice Lucky and leave it alone for now. Sure learned a lot on this one.

Re: safe wildcard use with "su -c 'apt-get purge <package na

interesting... all the extra python pkgs I added are in one entry of the /var/log/apt/history file as : Start-Date: 2014-09-06 13:03:56 Commandline: synaptic Install: python3-setproctitle:i386 (1.1.8-1~bpo70+1), python3-pyside.phonon:i386 (1.1.1-3, automatic), python3-gi:i386 (3.2.2-2), libjansson4:...

Re: safe wildcard use with "su -c 'apt-get purge <package na

I need to figure out what's in that command. pretty slick!

I do see conky, ardour & blender to be yanked if I really run it. But they can be installed again.

I don't see any python3 in the original.

That's a place to start.

Re: safe wildcard use with "su -c 'apt-get purge <package na

first pass was NOT from su and I redirected the output to a file; I wouldn't want to remove several of these items. NOTE: This is only a simulation! apt-get needs root privileges for real execution. Keep also in mind that locking is deactivated, so don't depend on the relevance to the real current s...

Re: safe wildcard use with "su -c 'apt-get purge <package na

I installed just about everything that has python in it just to poke around and now figured I'd get rid of it. Didn't realize parts of it were required for MX. Are the necessary packages listed anywhere? Did about the same for eclipse but that was because it was busted or more precisely, all the exa...

safe wildcard use with "su -c 'apt-get purge <package name>"

I'd like to blow away everything python from my system but... I see that when using wildcards '*' with the apt-get purge comand, if not typed correctly can remove a lot more than one thought. I need to purge everything with python in the package name including packages with Somethingpython, pythonSo...

Re: How to get a list of packages for an installed program

Let me clarify the problem I'm trying to solve: On some distros, there's a different interface (along with synaptic) to install applications. I search for a particular application, find it, install it and I'm done. This technique also drags along with it a lot of other packages for the complete setu...

How to get a list of packages for an installed program

For any installed program, say libreOffice, is there a way to retrieve a complete list of all the packages it took for that install?

Maybe some form of apt-get?
