Re: Help needed with NFS share

Can MX mount that windows NFS share - that would establish you have a working NFS client.

As to nfs-server, i cannot remember if i installed this aftewards, but i see I have nfs-kernel-server installed.
Wat does 'dpkg -l '*nfs*' report on your MX system ?

Re: Help needed with NFS share

In the exports file I share the folder with /dev/sdb1 /home/admin/EDrive/ ntfs nls-utf8,umask-0775,uid-1000,gid-1000,**rw** 0 0 This does not look like a line from /etc/exports but rather from /etc/fstab Are you sure your filesystem is writable on the server ? It seems you are using the ntfs driver...

Re: MX is really something special

Out of curiosity i once added the trinity repository to MX16 (jessie-based) and installed KDE3. I have not spent that much time with it but it seemed to work just fine. Lightdm lets me pick either XFCE or KDE as expected.

Re: repair of booting into XFCE4-desktop

it appears they are both using modesetting (the default IIRC) The "faulty" one dies saying "Server zapped. Shutting down" - i suppose when you kill your startx with a Ctrl-C, whereas the working one gets all sorts of EDID details from the monitor (but i have no idea why this does not happen for the ...

Re: repair of booting into XFCE4-desktop

Have you tried booting with "nosplash" as suggested ? Is one of you installs using the intel modesetting and the other the intel driver ? Do you remember adjusting that (via MX-tweak) ? If that is the case there would a difference in the content of your /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d folders ... Anyway I must...

Re: repair of booting into XFCE4-desktop

Are you perhaps sharing the home folder between these 2 installs ?
Are you getting the graphical login screen in the "faulty" system, or no X-windows at all ?
If so, perhaps /var/log/Xorg.0.log can show what goes wrong ...

Re: Systemd free MX19?

It is perfectly fine if the developers would rather discuss the issue in closed group rather than with folks who won't help with implementing anyway and just want both options preserved perhaps without realising someone has to work for it. But if devs are willing to share what i'd like to know is do...

Re: Package Installer - LTS NodeJS

Debian stretch-backports has version 8.11 and is also available from MXPI.

According to this note you can add a repository from which to install the LTS release. They claim it is compatible (and presumably safe to use) with debian, but i have not tried myself.

Re: conflict between MX and Debian linux-headers linux-image packages

Thanks Tim. I see plain debian stretch wants this kernel revision, too. I got confused by install telling me i already had the latest version whereas upgrade wanted to download it. And Stevo's post made me wrongly suspect a side-effect of MX's handling of the kernel meta-package.
