Re: MX audiophile tips and tricks

I am using vlc for audio.Seems to have a lot of options that can be configured- alsa /pulse etc. Any thoughts? It's a fine option for audio playback. In the audio setup options for VLC, you can opt to bypass Pulseaudio and pipe the audio output directly to your sound card / audio device. This isn't...

Re: MX audiophile tips and tricks

Just thought to chime in and say that I use Audacious as my general-purpose, default audio player ... I like the fact that you can set it up to play midi files by accessing high-quality soundfonts if you have them. I'm a professional musician (going on 45 years now!) and my go-to audio player for g...

Re: MX audiophile tips and tricks

I’m not sure that the comments about Pulseaudio not resampling are correct. Again, it’s been a while but... I own an external DAC that displays the output bit rate. When using Pulse, my 96khz files played back at 48 kHz. I wonder if the individual who claimed it was a “complete myth” experimented wi...

Re: MX audiophile tips and tricks

I’ve got MX Linux 18 running music player daemon (mpd). I’ve configured it to bypass Pulseaudio, and I’ve found the difference bypassing versus not bypassing is significant. For better or worse, the better your audio hardware and source music files, the more you’re able to hear Pulseaudio's negative...

Re: liquorix kernel won't boot.

It does when I I install the new Liquorix kernel debs with apt after building them. It helps if you watch the terminal output of the install process. When I was running the 4.19 kernel and installed 4.20, it built for both the 4.19 running kernel and the new one I was installing. Thanks, Stevo. I h...

Re: MX Distro for "not new" users

I guess one could choose to move on, but after all these years with Mepis and then MX, I’ve found more reasons NOT to move on.

Re: Old computer, new life (I hope)

A 10 year old Asus Core 2 Duo laptop is my daily driver. Works great with MX and I see no reason to need / want anything else right now.

Re: Two things missing from every Linux distro's

A few "glass half full" comments, it seems. It seems pretty simple to me: some one who had one computer class back in high school - about 40 years ago - and learned how to work with Linux on his own. I learned Linux because the limitations of Windows on the desktop bugged me. That doesn't describe m...

Re: MX-18 Feedback

Well, I got around to installing MX-18 this morning. Clean install on a clean partition. This has to be one of the worst installation experiences with any Linux distro that I've ever tried. Boring. Absolutely, stunningly boring. The initial install worked flawlessly, and very quickly. Nothing hung, ...

Re: How many instances of MX Linux (machines) do you run?

One serves as a media / music server running MX 16. The other is on my personal laptop running MX 17. My kids are getting laptops for Christmas, and hopefully soon they will be MX converts.
