Re: What's the most popular Linux of them all?

I daresay that the Debian mothership is the probably the most influential given the cloud of distributions that it has spawned - antiX, MX, Ubuntu, Mint, Knoppix, SteamOS, ElementaryOS, Raspbian , and dozens more. The fact that Google is now letting newer Chromebooks install packages from debian sta...

Re: systemd in debian

Another example of how Poettering's vision for systemd is to give the users his choices of what's "logical" rather than what they want - rather like some makers of proprietary operating systems. He did eventually back down in the face of his own udev documentation, but I understand why Michael Beibl...

Re: Wine Install

OK, I see the problem. The library versions from your error messages show that you have installed a number of libraries from debian testing (buster). MX-18 is based on debian stable (stretch), not testing and many packages, such as wine, built with stable libraries will not install on the libraries ...

Re: Wine Install

Wine-compat (or wine-staging-compat) pulls in the i386 dependencies that the wine-staging package doesn't specify.

Re: Wine Install

The easiest way to install wine in in MX is to use the MX Package Installer and install wine-compat from stable or wine-staging-compat from the Test repo. It will bring in everything else you need for both 64 & 32 bit wine.

Re: A question about Live USB Maker [Explained_to_Perfection]

PLEASE DO NOT GET a SanDisk Ultra Fit . They have problems booting. Likewise there are problems with the Samsung FIT Plus USB-3.1 . They do not show up for booting in my usb-3.0 ports but they do show up in my usb-2.0 ports... Might I add it's probably wise to avoid the J75 /S75 series Lexar drives...

Re: Enable or disable test repo before dist-upgrade?

There are over 500 source packages in MX-17/18 Test with a number of those including more than one binary package. Many of those are newer versions of packages in the Main repos so any of those you have installed will show as upgradeable if the Test repo is enabled.

Re: Enable or disable test repo before dist-upgrade?

Yes, please disable the Test repo before doing a dist-upgrade. It's called Test for a reason. Backported packages often require some newer libraries than ship with MX. This is a manageable situation when installing one package at a time from Test - If there'a a problem, you uninstall that package & ...

Re: calibre question in bug-tracker

My question is where did he get his calibre 3.37.0 ? MX-18 has 3.36.0 in main, no calibre in test, stretch-backports has 3.31.0 If it's not from our repos it's not our bug. I just installed calibre 3.36.0 and successfully converted a .mobi book and the .epub calibre Quickstart Guide to PDF. I did ge...
