Re: Creating zip compatible with Windows

I have never had a zip file fail in Windows that I created with Select files -> Right click ->
Compress -> zip
in Thunar. Do you have any examples that fail for us to inspect?

Re: MX17, upgrades (did debian take over the numberings again?)

No, this is the debian security patching debian packages. The deb9u+1 shows it comes from Updates or Security repos. If it were updating an MX version, the first version in each line - the one being replaced - would look like (version 6.3.0-18mx17+1) instead of (version 6.3.0-18).

Re: aptx support

As best I can tell, the Aptx codec is a proprietary one which is not offered as a software component for any Linux OS. However it is built into a number of Bluetooth dongles using CSR brand chipsets like this one: Amazon Product Link I have not tested any of these dongles and just pointed to the fir...

Re: dist-upgrade LO 5.4 or wait for LO 6?

Sorry, didn't realize that was in a dev-only forum. Here's the info: Apparently the the setup of tzdata doesn't like our default live /etc/timezone and /etc/localtime settings (these are modified post install during the build-iso process). rebooting with a timezone actually explicitly selected and t...

Re: dist-upgrade LO 5.4 or wait for LO 6?

The tzdata bug appears running from Livemedia when a timezone hasn't been selected. It's not too hard to fix. See here:

Re: Removing samba also removes mx-apps and mx-system packages.

Yes, there is a page for selecting which services run on startup. It still leaves the package installed but not running just as the rc-update disable command leaves things

Re: [SOLVED] Dvb-T

Thank you for reporting back. It's always good to add a new bit of knowledge to the toolkit. I hadn't thought of adding the required modules to intramfs.

Except that you don't have to install the libreoffice-gnome package from backports. The one in the main repository is the same one.

Re: Removing samba also removes mx-apps and mx-system packages.

Does this mean nothing is running? $ ps -A | grep mbd 2716 ? 00:00:00 nmbd 3049 ? 00:00:00 smbd 3075 ? 00:00:00 smbd-notifyd No, there would be no output of they weren't running. The numbers are the Process IDs (PID) for the running processes at the end of each line.

Re: Removing samba also removes mx-apps and mx-system packages.

ps -A | grep mbd will show you whether the Samba daemon (smbd) or NetBios daemon (nmbd) are running. You can stop the daemons from starting at boot by running: sudo update-rc.d smbd disable 2 3 4 5 sudo update-rc.d nmbd disable 2 3 4 5 sudo update-rc.d samba-ad-dc disable 2 3 4 5 sudo update-rc.d s...
